Jose Theodore sustained a lower body injury vs. New York Islanders, and is listed day-to-day. Michal Neuvirth started in goal, and the Capitals recalled Braden Holtby to back up Neuvirth. Jean-Sebastien Giguere (4-7-5) made his first start in more than three weeks opposite Neuvirth (6-4-0).

Game Notes
Within 32 seconds of the first period, Alex Ovechkin scored with assists from the two Mikes: Knuble and Green. The period ends 1-0 Capitals.
The Capitals failed to clear the puck and Ducks forward Dan Sexton tied the game with an even-strength goal at 11:23 in the second period. It was obvious that both teams played the night before—Neuvirth and Giguere, the only “fresh” players on the ice, kept their team in the game. While the Capitals stayed out of the sin bin in the first period, both teams spent some time in the penalty box in the second. Green and Bobby Ryan both received a penalty for roughing, a weak call by the referees considering Ryan pushed Green multiple times until they fell on the ice—Green showed no display of MMA skills considered he is known to frequent the fights. The scored is tied at 1-1 at the end of the period.
A fight ensued near the Ducks bench in the first few seconds of the third period, but no whistle is immediately blown. Shaone Morrisonn scored from the top of the crease at 1:45, unassisted, and Knuble posted a backhanded goal at 2:39 with Ovechkin and Morrisonn on the assist. Morrisonn scored the Capitals’ 200th goal of the season. As announcer Wes Johnson tried to announce the previous goals, Semin backhanded the puck past Giguere at 4:15, with assists by Brooks Laich and Jeff Schultz, for his 24th goal of the season. Matt Bradley traded punches with Mike Brown and both received five for fighting. The Ducks become increasingly frustrated—Corey Perry received penalties for slashing and unsportsmanlike conduct, then Matt Beleskey followed Perry in the box. Semin took advantage of the 5-on-3 and scored a power play goal, his second goal of the game. Backstrom and Ovechkin assisted.
The Capitals defeated the Ducks 5-1, and Semin earned the first star of the game.
